Baseball and Nightlife with great friends!!

So yesterday was very fun filled and just a generally great day spent with great friends!

We started off by going to the Houston Astros game at Minute Maid park!
Let's start off by saying
1. I love watching professional sports
2. No matter how bad our teams might be (cough the Astros lost 7-2 to the Angels cough) Houston fans still show up and support
3. Alcohol and free stuff makes losing not as bad!

So many of you know the Astros have not been the best MLB team in awhile in fact they aren't very good at all, this is a great thing though because that means they give away alot of free stuff at games!
Check out our free jerseys!!

I had such a great time celebrating America's past time with these people despite the loss!

Later that night we went out to The Cellar Bar which is a pretty laid back bar on Richmond and Buffalo Speedway. They have karaoke on Fridays and Saturdays and fairly decently priced drinks. I really like this bar for the more chill nights when you don't want to go deal with the midtown craziness, it had a very good neighborhood feel to it!

All in all a really perfect day and night with really perfect people!!

Cheers,
Amy

Friendly Dinner at Goode Company BBQ

Goode Company BBQ
5109 Kirby Dr

So last night I went out with friends for dinner at Goode Company BBQ and while I will be the first to admit I'm not a huge BBQ fan I loved the environment of this place!
Indoor setting is pretty sparse but they do have nice picnic tables outside with lots of seating and misting fans to cool off the area!

I had the BBQ plate which comes with a meat and 2 sides, I had the turkey with the Austin baked beans and potato salad and a slice of the jalapeƱo bread. The plate was about $13 for alot of food! Now like I said I'm not the biggest BBQ fan so I'm not the best at judging what's good and bad but I would definitely come back here for a laid dinner and beer

Astros game later today at 3:00, so more to come tonight or tomorrow!!

Cheers,
Amy

Dad & Daughter Lunch- Little Matt's

Little Matt's in West University
6203 Edloe St
Houston, TX 77005

So I met up with my dad for lunch today and we decided to explore the neighborhood of West U and find some good grilled American food!

We decided on Little Matt's and it definitely brought me back to my childhood! The counter where you place your order also does double duty as a candy bar, icee's are on the drink menu and there's an arcade in the back!

The environment in here is very laid back, they have both indoor and outdoor seating (the outdoor seating is very cute and nice but it is summertime in Houston so we stayed inside). It is very kid friendly so not really where you would go for a romantic date but for a chill lunch or dinner it is perfect!

The menu features American style food (salads, sandwiches, and burgers) as well as some Tex-Mex
And yes the most important thing FREE MARGARITAS!!
Since they are across from an elementary school they cannot technically sell alcohol, but they have a margarita machine that they will serve you from, and then you graciously tip :)

Dad had the classic hamburger with some AMAZING fries

And I had the chicken quesadilla
The menu is pretty cheap especially from the West U area with most entrees being under $10!
I had a wonderful experience here and will definitely be returning soon!
For parting words I'll leave you with what Little Matt's has painted outside their door

Cheers,
Amy

Blog about a medical student exploring the big city

I wanted to create this blog because although I was raised right outside the Houston area, I have just recently moved inside the loop and really begun to explore all the great things this city has to offer!

A little about me, I recently graduated from Texas A&M University (Class of 2013 WHOOP!) with a degree in Biology and will start medical school this fall at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (A&M to UT....weird I know, but no burnt orange scrubs for me).

So until the fall, I have a summer full of adventures to have exploring this wonderful city,  and I plan on documenting everything here. I'm quite the foodie, wino, and coffee drinker so that will show up often along with fun things to do and see around town and perhaps some blogging from a first year medical student.

Let the adventure begin!

Cheers,
Amy
